I had wanted a ring-light-and-tripod setup for a long time. I researched several options, and I kept finding black ones. Perfectly reasonable. Very practical. Also, not pink.
If you have read about my slowly evolving pink and purple office, you probably understand why that mattered to me. I wanted something useful for filming, but I also wanted to enjoy looking at it. The pink UBeesize 12-inch LED ring light with its 62-inch tripod finally brought those two wishes together.
I bought this setup and use it myself. What follows is my experience getting it adjusted and filming with it, including the part where I had to slow down and figure things out.
Why I Chose the Pink UBeesize Ring Light
The pink version fits the direction I am taking my workspace. I am gradually adding more color, one purchase at a time. The room is still a work in progress, and apparently even my filming equipment wants to participate.
Color got my attention, but I also needed the setup to work for the things I actually film. Sometimes I am talking to the camera. Sometimes the interesting thing is a product in front of me. I wanted to be able to change the arrangement without feeling locked into one position.
The Tripod Pole and Clips Are What I Notice
I like the sturdy feel of the metal-alloy pole. As I extend its sections, the clips secure them in place. That is one of the details I appreciate when I am setting it up: I can adjust the height and fasten the sections where I want them.
The 12-inch light and 62-inch tripod are the manufacturer’s stated sizes, rather than measurements I made myself. UBeesize identifies this configuration in its ring-light documentation. My impression of sturdiness comes from handling and using mine; I cannot tell you yet how it will hold up over years.
The Magnetic Phone Mount Worked With My Case
The magnetic phone mount worked well for me even with my phone case on. I can position my phone vertically or horizontally, which is useful when I want to change how I frame a shot.
I would keep that experience specific to my phone and case. UBeesize’s guide explains that the hold can vary with case material, phone weight, and alignment, and describes using a metal ring when needed. My successful setup is not a promise that every phone and case will behave the same way.
Filming Myself, Then Turning to a Product
I can use the light facing me or adjust it to angle over something I am filming, such as a keyboard. That flexibility is a big part of the appeal. If you know how I feel about keyboards, you know they were going to find their way into this story.
I like being able to adjust the light itself as well as the phone’s orientation. Those are useful choices when I move from being in the shot to making a product the subject.
For clarity, the manufacturer’s specifications distinguish five color-temperature settings from ten brightness levels. The pink magnetic kit is also listed with a remote and two adhesive metal rings. Those are specification details, not a claim that I have measured the light output or tested every accessory and setting.
My Drawback: There Are Quite a Few Adjustments to Learn
Having several ways to configure it is useful once I know what I am doing. Getting to that point took some time.
I needed to learn the adjustments and work out how the pieces moved together. This was not a case of opening the package and instantly understanding every possible arrangement. Pink does not come with automatic technical expertise. Sadly.
That is the trade-off I would mention to someone considering a similar setup: I like the flexibility, but I needed a little patience with the setup process.
Who I Think Would Enjoy This Setup
Based on how I use mine, I can see the appeal for someone who films themselves and also shows products, wants to switch between portrait and landscape, and does not mind spending some time learning the adjustments. Enjoying pink certainly does not hurt.
For me, the useful parts are the sturdy-feeling pole, the sections that clip into place, the magnetic mount that worked with my case, and the different filming angles. The color makes me happy, too. I wanted a practical piece of equipment that felt at home in the workspace I am building, and this one does.
